Dinesh IT Systems, part of Kerala Dinesh Beedi Workers' Central Co-op Society, faced challenges in setting up a disaster recovery solution for their customer applications. Skylark, leveraging AWS Elastic Disaster Recovery, provided a tailor-made solution that was cost-effective and met stringent recovery time objectives.

The Challenges

  • Need for a cost-effective disaster recovery solution for applications hosted in their data center.
  • Target of achieving a Recovery Point Objective (RPO) of less than 30 minutes and a Recovery Time Objective (RTO) of maximum 1 hour.

Our Solution

Skylark designed a solution utilizing AWS Elastic Disaster Recovery, focusing on cost-effectiveness and automation. The approach involved replicating data to a low-size staging Linux VM, only spinning up the DR instance during disasters, significantly reducing overall costs. Skylark also managed cloud infrastructure, replication, and DR drills.

Key components included an IPSEC VPN between Dinesh IT’s data center and AWS VPC, and configuring AWS cloud infrastructure with all necessary security. The solution allowed Dinesh IT Systems to conduct DR failover simulation tests without impacting daily operations.
